The Latest: Shooter, 2 killed in an attack were identified


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – The latest on a shoot in a Florida yoga studio (local):


The authorities have identified the shooter in a yoga studio in Tallahassee and the two people he killed, reports Tallahassee Democrat Democrat.

The Tallahassee Police Department has identified the shooter as Scott Paul Beierle (40), the newspaper reports. He killed himself at the scene on Friday.

The department identified the two killed persons as Dr. med. Nancy Van Vessem (61) and Maura Binkley (21), reports the Democrat.

The newspaper reports that Van Vessem was an internist who served as chief physician of the Capital Health Plan.

The Capital Health Plan issued a statement praising Van Vessem, the Democrat reported.

"As a senior CHP principal, Nancy has been a driving, visionary force in our daily work to meet the needs of thousands of families in this community, whose dedication, care, leadership, humanity and experience have made her one of the most respected, inspiring and Our hearts are filled with sorrow and prayers for their family, and we were all so blessed to have Nancy in our lives, "the company said.

John Thrasher, president of Florida State University, says Van Vessem and Binkley had links to the university.

"Losing one of our students and one of our faculty members in this tragic and violent way is devastating to the Florida State University family, we deeply feel that loss, and we send our deepest sympathy to the loved ones of Maura and Nancy as we do so pray for the recovery of the injured, "said Thrasher in a statement.



The mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum, the governor's Democratic nominee, broke off the campaign to return to Tallahassee after the shoot at a yoga studio in the city. Previously, he appeared at a campaign meeting with former President Barack Obama.

Late on Friday evening, Gillum talked to reporters near the scene of the shootout and said he visited two people in the hospital who were shot in the studio. The mayor said they were in a good mood despite their injuries.

Gillum asked the residents to pray for those who survived and those who were killed in the shootings.

"We all feel extra vulnerability," said the mayor.



Police say a second person died from a shooter who opened the fire in a Florida yoga studio before he killed himself.

Tallahassee police chief Michael DeLeo told reporters on Friday night that the shooter had shot six people and hit another person with a pistol before shooting himself dead. The conditions of the other victims are unclear.

The death toll in a small shopping center in Tallahassee is now at three, including the suspect.

Authorities did not identify the shooter or the victims.

DeLeo said the authorities are investigating possible motives. He declined to say what kind of weapon the shooter had.

The authorities say that one man fatally shot one person in a Florida yoga studio and severely injured four others before he killed himself.

During a press conference on Friday evening, Tallahassee police chief Michael DeLeo said four people are in critical condition after being shot dead in a small Tallahassee mall. City spokeswoman Alison Faris says the suspect shot himself.

The police have not identified the shooter and ask anyone who has seen anything unusual in the shooting time to contact the police.

Officials say a man killed himself after injuring at least four more in a yoga studio in Florida's capital.

The Shooting Friday took place in a small shopping mall in Tallahassee and several police cars and ambulances were on site.

City spokeswoman Alison Faris says the suspect shot himself. City manager Reese Goad said four people were injured.

The Mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum, Democratic candidate for the governor, tweeted that he is canceling the election to return to Tallahassee.
