Kia confirms that the second generation of the Niro model is inspired by the Habaniro concept from 2019. It continues to offer different types of drive with different degrees of electrification.
The Kia Niro has been on sale since 2016, so the arrival of a successor is slowly approaching. And he’s really out the door, before many have expected. The new Niro will be introduced this week. The unveiling will take place this Thursday, November 25, at the upcoming mobility fair in Seoul, Korea.
At the same time, the Korean carmaker attracts to the premiere with the first trailer, through which it confirms recent reports that the Niro II is inspired by the HabaNiro concept from 2019. It is mainly about the unusual solution of headlights. The silhouette of the car then suggests that the new Niro bets on a more angular body shape rather than on the curves of its predecessor.
The carmaker confirms that the new Niro will follow the current stylistic direction of “connected opposites”. Such a character should be noticeable inside, for example, thanks to the asymmetrical dashboard. The designers talk about inspiration from nature, and the possibility of a two-tone body is to be taken from the HabaNiro concept.
Kia did not release more information about the novelty, but words in the press release about maintaining the “eco character” suggest that the Niro will continue to be available with different types of propulsion. It should still be offered as a full-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric car. Improvements in the bowels are expected, and higher battery capacity or faster charging are also offered.
The second-generation Kia Niro with the internal designation SG2 will go on sale during 2022. It is still to be a global model, so we will see it in Europe as well.
