Saudi Arabia’s first movie theater will open on October 18 at the modern cinema complex at the King Abdullah Financial Center in Riyadh, more than three decades after the lifting of the ban on opening cinemas last year, the company said on Monday. The entertainment company for development and investment, “AMSI Entertainment” said in a statement yesterday evening that it will celebrate this historic moment with a special ceremony on Wednesday, April 18, in the presence of several prominent local and international figures, as well as media outlets. The event will also feature a special feature of one of Hollywood’s most famous films, which will be announced later. The show will be the first of a series of exclusive film shows in April, with special invitations only. The official opening of the event is scheduled for May, with the introduction of the ticket purchase service and the selection of show times through an advanced system via the company’s website. The Saudi authorities announced last week that the first cinema house will open on April 18 in the capital, Riyadh, for the first time in more than 30 years in the kingdom, after the agreement with American company “AMC”. The Ministry of Culture and Information said that the company is expected to open 40 theaters in 15 Saudi cities over the next five years. This comes after the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Public Investment Fund in November 2017.
