WASHINGTON, March 13. / TASS /. Russia is trying to divert attention from real problems in Syria. This was stated in an interview with TASS correspondent on Tuesday by Pentagon spokesman Johnny Michael, commenting on the statement of the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov about the provocation in Syria with poisonous substances in Syria in order to justify the US blow to the government districts of Damascus.
“We urge Russia to stop distracting attention from real problems [in Syria], to force [the regime of President Bashar] Asad to stop treating the Syrian citizens cruelly and allow much needed help to the residents of East Guta and other remote areas,” Michael said.
According to him, Russia, “allowing Assad’s regime to brutalize, is a moral accomplice and is responsible for the crimes of Assad.”
Michael recalled the remarks made on March 12 by US Permanent Representative to the UN Nikki Haley at a meeting of the UN Security Council that Washington is ready to strike Syrian government forces if the world organization can not achieve a ceasefire in East Gut.
As Gerasimov said on Tuesday, Russia has reliable information about the training by militants in Syria of staging the use of chemical weapons by the government troops against the population. After this provocation, the US plans to provide the world community with the so-called “evidence” of the deaths of civilians and to launch a missile-bomb strike on the government blocks of Damascus. Gerasimov stressed that in Damascus in the offices and facilities of the Ministry of Defense of Syria are Russian military, and “in the event of a threat to the lives of our soldiers, the Russian Armed Forces will take retaliatory measures both on missiles and carriers that will use them.”
