Leaks about the new processors do not happen much, especially when it comes to 7-nm AMD Ryzen 3000 desktop processors. The source of the next leak was the performance test database UserBenchmark, which revealed a fresh record of testing an engineering sample of the future 12-core processor Ryzen 3000 series. We have already mentioned this chip, but now I would like to consider the test results themselves.
So, the engineering model codenamed 2D3212BGMCWH2_37 / 34_N was tested on a motherboard with the designation Qogir-MTS (most likely an engineering board on an AMD X570) along with 16 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, a Radeon RX 550 video card and a 500 GB hard drive . The frequency of this engineering sample is only 3.4 / 3.7 GHz. In the final version of the chip, the frequency will be clearly higher, and according to rumors, the 12-core Ryzen 3000 will even be able to overclock up to 5.0 GHz.
As for the test results, they are not at all admirable. If we compare the results of the engineering sample with the results of the 12-core AMD processor of the current generation, Ryzen Threadripper 2920X, it turns out that the new product loses up to 15%. Of course, there is a very significant difference in the clock speeds – they are 3.5 / 4.3 GHz for the Ryzen Threadripper 2920X. The final version of the 12-core Ryzen 3000 should be faster and in frequency, so it should beat the Ryzen Threadripper 2920X. But the big difference to count at the moment is not necessary.
To justify the results of the Ryzen 3000, we note once again that this is only an engineering sample with a fairly low frequency. In addition, it was tested, most likely, with not yet optimized drivers. Finally, UserBenchmark can hardly be called a reliable source of information about the performance of a particular processor. Yes, and judging by one test chip is clearly not worth it.
But, apparently, the performance increase due to the increase in IPC will be lower than expected. Note that this indicator in any case will be higher than that of Zen +, but the greatest increase will be felt only in some tasks. The good news is that before the announcement of the Ryzen 3000 there are less than two weeks, and at the presentation, AMD will clearly share information about the performance of its new products.
