The Run Trail Nîmes 30, there is no age limit for trail running

The Nîmes club, specializing in the discipline, launched its school this season. From the age of 8.

On June 6, 2017, the Run Trail Nîmes 30 (RTN 30) was born. The trail, a discipline in full swing – with its star, the Spaniard Kilian Jornet, in best commercial – of which the Nîmes club has also taken the light. “The first two, three years, it exploded completely (80 licensees in 2017), notes Abdelhak Bendaya, 42, its founder with Cyril Sabatier. Afterwards, we had a very complicated period with the Covid and, there, we are recovering slowly. This year, there is a new momentum that has been instilled and it is starting up well.”

And even if there are only 40 licensees left, the appointment is made on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Marcel Rouvière stadium. “There are people and everyone is having fun, welcomes President Bendaya. Which is well supported in its mission by Sébastien Mejean (graduate trainer) and Marjorie Janas (communication). “They are doing a tremendous job at the head of the club”indicates the one who is at the genesis of the project.

Bendaya: “The idea is to make kids run outside the FFA criteria”

Ideas, at the RTN 30, we have our heads full. And since there is no age to share passions, young people from 8 to 18 years old are invited to follow in the footsteps of seniors on single tracks and other DFCIs. “In fact, we joined the trail school (existence at the national level), details the president. It’s a label that was set up by Guilhem Prax, in Millau (Aveyron). The idea is to make kids run outside the FFA criteria (French Athletics Federation), by making them play fun games in nature.”

Still in a trial period, the school already has about ten young people. “In fact, we offer two licenses, continues the former licensee at Alès Cévennes athletics. A competition license with which you can join the FFA and one without. with simple membership.”

Bois des Espeisses, Clos Gaillard in playgrounds

To get out of the routine of 400 meter laps, trail running is the ideal way to escape. “I compare it a bit to cross-country, that’s what I also like about the discipline”observes Abdelhak Bendaya, record at 31’23 over 10 km road and winner, in 2018, of the Urban trail of Lyon (the reference) and Nîmes (NUT).

At the RTN 30, we therefore offer young people another way of discovering the discipline. By surveying the single tracks of the Bois des Espeisses or the Clos Gaillard. Nature abhors a vacuum…
