New cases of coronavirus infection are increasing in the two areas mentioned above, yet Spain is the country with the fastest increase in the number of patients per capita. People fear that the situation will be even worse than in the spring, when the first wave of the epidemic hit the country.
In the past week, Spain has recorded more than 43,000 new cases of the disease, which means 92 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. This is about five times the number of Czech cases, and even ten times the number of new patients in Italy. Authorities are responding through intensive screening in the most affected areas.
“I think we all had it. Until they give us the results, we will not be sure, “said health worker Misla Godoy, who lives in the suburbs of Madrid.
Massive testing in schools
Coronavirus tests should now increase in Catalonia. There they plan big testing directly at schools, it should be up to half a million tests in the first half of the year. At the weekend alone, Catalonia recorded the largest increase in infected in almost the last month.
The Catalan government has already announced tightening anti-pandemic measures. “It will ban the association of more than ten people, whether in public or in private. It will reduce the capacity of the bars to fifty percent. Newly, close contacts of patients will have to complete 14 days of quarantine, regardless of the fact that they will have a negative test, “said the editor of Czech Television Tereza Kručinská.
Other complications for a possible vacation
The country, which is largely dependent on tourism, is losing hope for an extended summer season. It is Spain that has already classified the Czech Republic as a high-risk country, with the exception of the Canary Islands, where the authorities have recorded only 70 new cases in the past two weeks.
In Spain, 405,437 SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infections have been confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic, the ninth highest number in the world compared to Johns Hopkins University. In the last day, 2,060 cases were added, the highest daily increase since the end of April was recorded by Spain on Friday, with 3,650 newly infected.
However, in addition to Spain, Croatia, which is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Czech Republic, may also face travel restrictions. At the weekend, for example, Austrians and Italians began to leave the country en masse.
