The State Department of Health does not find a cancer cluster around the Canon McMillan School District

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, there is no cancer cluster in Washington County and the Canon McMillan School District. In recent years, there have been several cases of Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Since 2008, there have been at least six cases. Every year, around 200 cases were diagnosed across the country. The Department of Health states that the data are available after analyzing the three time periods that the rate of Ewing's sarcoma and related cancers is not significantly higher. The area is larger than the rest of the state. "Overall, there was no conclusive evidence that the incidence rates of the Ewing tumor family in Washington County and the Canon-McMillan School District were consistently and statistically significantly higher for females and males than the remainder. During the periods studied, however, the DOH decreases concern about EFOT and pediatric cancers raised by this community and other Commonwealth communities. DOH will continue to monitor the incidence of EFOT and pediatric cancer in Pennsylvania over the next few years as new data becomes available in PCR, "a statement from the Department of Health said.
