The two double-sided prints on plexiglass disappeared in the summer of 2018. The town hall reinstalled them. Total cost: 4,000 euros each.
"We should never leave Montauban!" : the two silhouettes of the Volfoni brothers, "Tontons Flingueurs" were reinstalled Wednesday January 15 on the Mandoune roundabout (which has since become the roundabout of Tontons Flingueurs), in Montauban, in Tarn-et-Garonne, indicates France Occitanie Blue.
The two double-sided prints on plexiglass, that of Raoul Volfoni (interpreted by Bernard Blier), and that of Paul Volfoni (Jean Lefebvre), had disappeared in the summer of 2018. The first had been destroyed. On the other, that of Paul, there were only the feet, sawn.
After the disappearance of the figures, the mayor of Montauban Brigitte Barèges had proposed an exchange for a replica, and even no legal action if the statue was returned. Without response, the municipality had planned to replace them, at a cost of around 4,000 euros per statue.
All the statues were installed and inaugurated in 2014, in tribute to the film by Georges Lautner, released in 1963. Lino Ventura played the role of Fernand Naudin, trader in agricultural machinery in Tarn-et-Garonne, with this cult phrase signed from dialogist Michel Audiard: "We should never leave Montauban!".
