The Threat of Sea Waves is Very High in NTT until Early July 2022, Following are BMKG’s Appeals

LATEST FLORES – The waters in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region for the next few days until early July 2022 are estimated by the Kupang Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to experience a very high increase in sea waves.

Therefore, BMKG urges residents to be aware of the threat of very high sea waves that have the potential to hit several points of sea waters in NTT over the next few days.

“Sea waves with a height ranging from 4 to 6 meters or very high categories have the potential to hit the Indian Ocean south of Sumba-Sabu and south of Kupang-Rote as well as the southern waters of Kupang-Rote,” said Head of the BMKG Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station Syaeful Hadi in Kupang, quoted by Antara. from ANTARA, Wednesday 29 June 2022.

The potential for very high waves, he said, needs to be watched out for because of the high risk of shipping large ships such as cargo ships and cruise ships.

In addition, there are two water points that also have the potential to be hit by high waves (2.5-4 meters) in the eastern Sumba Strait and the Sawu Sea, which pose a high risk to ferries.

Meanwhile, the northern waters of Kupang-Rote, the western part of the Sumba Strait have the potential to be hit by moderate waves (1.25-2.5 meters) which need to be watched out for by fishing boats.
