VIVA – The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) rejected the provision for an increase in the provincial minimum wage (UMP) which was only 1.09 percent. Therefore, they will take to the streets, holding demonstrations on 29-30 November 2021.
The demonstration was in response to a statement by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, who set the 2022 UMP at IDR 4,453,935,536. Here is some information regarding the labor action early next week:
1. Siege of the Palace, City Hall to Kemenaker
KSPI President Said Iqbal said demonstrations to express the rejection will be carried out at the State Palace, DKI Jakarta City Hall, and the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker). These three places are considered as the root cause of the low decision to increase the UMP.
“The steps to be taken have been agreed by 6 confederations and 60 trade union federations at the national level,” said Said Iqbal, Monday, November 22, 2021.
The demonstration will certainly be attended by tens of thousands of workers who are members of 60 federations. It is certain that they will simultaneously hold actions at the same time with a mechanism for distributing places in each of the target locations for the demonstration.
