The Tour de France could return to the top of the Puy de Dôme

The director of the Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez, and the president of the departmental council of Puy-de-Dôme, Lionel Chauvin, visited together the climb of the puy de Dôme this Friday.

A meeting took place between the three men to discuss a potential return of the most visited site in Auvergne to the Tour program. “The dream becomes bigger today”dropped Christian Prudhomme. “Yes, there is a lot of emotion for us, because it’s a dream we’ve had in our heads for years. The Puy de Dôme is a myth, our Auvergne emblem and I always thought it was a mistake to deprive yourself of the potential to come here”recalled Laurent Wauquiez.

Monument of the Grand Boucle although absent from the route since 1988, it could return in the near future. To the delight of Christian Prudhomme, a fan of anniversary dates, and who has not forgotten that July 12, 2024 could hold a stage where Jacques Anquetil and Raymond Poulidor fought 60 years ago.
