The UNNE Institute of Medicine has already analyzed 1,500 samples to detect coronaviruses

After decreeing compulsory isolation, and given the progress of cases in the country and in the region, the National University of the Northeast (UNNE) signed an agreement with the Government, by which made available the Institute of Regional Medicine for the analysis of samples for the diagnosis of coronavirus.

Thus, at the Institute of Regional Medicine (IMR-UNNE), the Molecular Biology laboratory set up in a record time of 3 days, a specific Covid-19 diagnostic laboratory based on the real-time PCR technique.

In this sense, the director of the Institute, Luis Merino, stressed that from April 1 to date more than 1500 samples have been processed, at a variable rate of 30 to 70 samples daily.

It should be noted that patients do not go to the Institute, nor do Institute staff take samples from patients, but rather that Chaco Public Health professionals are in charge of extracting samples from suspected patients and then arrange to send them to the Perrando Hospital or to the IMR-UNNE.

A team of 15 professionals made up of teachers / researchers and fellows are participating in this task., which takes place from Monday to Saturday at the headquarters of the Institute located in University Campus of the city of Resistencia.
