The eruption of the La Palma volcano has caused a authentic wave of solidarity throughout the country, showing once again the solidarity characteristic of Spain. There are dozens of initiatives by individuals and entities to help those affected by this phenomenon of nature in the form of fundraising or sending basic material for those who have lost everything under the lava.
The latest initiative has come from the hands of people best known to all who seek to give a boost to one of the economic engines of the island and thousands of palm trees.
The Catalan film producer Jordi Gasull launched a challenge a week ago that quickly went viral, asking everyone to have a gesture with so many people who are now having a hard time: eat a Canarian banana to help palm agriculture continue.
How could it be otherwise, the response has been massive. Gasull himself encouraged the footballer Gerard Piqué or the actors from La Casa de Papel to join the challenge and quickly Pedro Alonso, Berlin, in the Spanish blockbuster, shared a video on his networks eating a piece of this fruit.
From that moment on, the ball has not stopped getting bigger. Chef José Andrés helped spread the challenge before the cameras of Antena 3 News and, little by little, other celebrities and public figures have supported him. This is what the actors have already done Dani Rovira o Eduard Fernández, comedians like Los Morancos or JJ Vaquero or even the chef with 12 Michelin stars Martín Berasategui.
The proof that the initiative is taking hold is the establishments at street level. Greengrocers account for a increase in the sale of Canarian bananas during the last days by his regular customers. A small gesture that can help wound healing a little earlier.
