Like every November, the industry is filled with anniversaries of different games and consoles that continue to be remembered in a good way. One of them is the Wii, which this week (November 19 to be exact), turned 15 years since its launch and is something that has to be celebrated.
It all started with the presentation of a console that at the time was called Nintendo Revolution, to later become the Wii, a hardware that, as its code name promised, revolutionized the game mode and the community of players in general, this by opening the door to all kinds of people.
Clearly his strong point was the motion control with his curious Wii Remote, which seemed like a simple TV control and which allowed me to discover a new way to enjoy games by getting up from the chair.
Not all was well received from the console, as it consolidated Nintendo’s departure from the competition in powerful hardware, to settle for offering new and fun experiences for everyone in a simpler system.
Despite this, the company’s bet with the Wii was completely successful and managed to sell more than 101 million units around the world thanks to the enormous curiosity that its characteristics generated, and enough to become Nintendo’s best-selling home console. till the date.
Of course, the Wii offered us a large number of games that until now are still very loved by fans, we are talking about titles such as Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Mario Kart Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country Returns and many, but many more.
It is worth mentioning that the philosophy of the Wii has been maintained in Nintendo since then, and the Nintendo Switch is a great example of this, so everything indicates that the company will continue to offer innovation in its next consoles with the franchises that we like so much, always putting fun ahead.
For all the good times it gave us, happy anniversary to the Wii!
