Out of the ordinary Excellent Very well
When Thanksgiving arrives, it's time to buy a variety of wines for the holiday table. This week's recommendations include a "nouveau" bubb from Maryland, a frothy way to kick off the rainy year of 2018. We also have a beautiful Beaujolais and a Cotes-du-Rhône, which deliver impressive quality for their price, and two delicious great values from California.
Laurent Martray Brouilly Combiaty 2016
Beaujolais, France, $ 24
Beaujolais is often associated with its popular November Nouveau release in November, but the region offers a variety of wines that reward aging for a few years. Beaujolais is a popular house wine in French bistros because of its versatility with a wide variety of food. Brouilly is one of the "crus" of Beaujolais or higher-ranking districts that have their own expression. 2016 was a fantastic year across France. This wine is delicious, with light cherry and berry flavors around a mineral core and a finish that lasts for a few seconds. Alcohol by volume: 12.5 percent.

Clos du Mont-Olivet Vieilles Votes Cotes-du-Rhône 2016
Rhone Valley, France, $ 20
This is a Cotes-du-Rhône from a popular maker of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and it shows. This wine has almost the weight of the more prestigious and expensive appellation, with a nice depth of dark fruits and wild herbs. ABV: 14 percent.
Imported and distributed by Dionysos: Available in the District at Circle Wine & Liquor, MacArthur Beverages, Rodman's, Whole Foods Market (P Street). Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc + Viognier 2017
California, $ 14
This wine is a constant Californian favorite and is often available at a lower price than the list price. The Chenin Blanc gives a slightly sweet citrus note, while the Viognier brings floral aromas and a plus on the palate. ABV: 12.5 percent.

Fairfax Wine Company Pinot Noir 2017
California, $ 18
Who can resist a delicious California Pinot Noir under $ 20? They are hard to find but this one offers classic pinot aromas of black cherries and spices with a nice velvety texture. I recommend opening it (and possibly decanting it) about an hour before drinking. For white wine lovers, there is also a Chardonnay. ABV: 13.8 percent.

Old Westminster Winery Piquette 2018
Maryland, $ 20
This is a funny wine, an "Art Nouveau" from Maryland, to mark the youngest, very difficult and rainy vintage. It also fits the pétillant naturel trend of slightly sparkling wines, without sulfites. If you visit a winery in the fall, this wine can remind you of the raw smell of fermented wine. This is red, so enjoy it like a Lambrusco. The label says "Serve cold, open slowly". I heard some bottles were bubbling when the crown cap was removed, but mine just hissed, the wine had only a soft lather. Virginia approval is still in progress, but the wine should be available there in the coming weeks. ABV: 7 percent.
Distributed by Siema in the District and Virginia, by the Maryland Winery: Available in the Domestique District, Glen's Garden Market, Wagshals Deli; on the list at Centrolina. Available in Maryland at Downtown Crown Wine and Beer in Gaithersburg, the French Paradox Wines at Stevenson, Wine Source and Wine Works in Baltimore; on the list with Clavel and thread sons in Baltimore.
Availability information is based on distribution records. Wines may not be stocked in every listed store and may be sold in other stores. The prices are about. Check Winesearcher.com to check availability, or ask a favorite wine shop to order through a dealer.
