Theologian Benhaddou about new series “Ground”: “Muslims are more concerned with burial than Flemish society”

“Muslims are more concerned with how they will be buried than Flemish society,” says Khalid Benhaddou. “There’s less talk here about anything to do with death care.”

According to Benhaddou, many Muslims take out insurance at a young age through a funeral fund. “After the death of a Muslim, there is another ritual washing. This is done by family or relatives. This is followed by a prayer in the mosque and then one must ensure that the funeral takes place as soon as possible.”

The insurance covers everything from ritual washing to repatriation, says Benhaddou.
