The CNN Internet version published an article written by First Lady Jill Biden, wife of U.S. President Joe Biden, who recently made a surprise visit to the Ukrainian border via Eastern Europe on the 11th (local time).
First Lady Biden shared her thoughts on the horrors of the war in an article that day.
“I don’t even need to see sadness with my eyes because I can feel it with my heart,” Biden wrote in an article.
“They have lost the normal language and laughter,” Biden said.
Biden, who had met the mothers of Ukrainian refugees in Romania and Slovakia, said, “I spoke about the horrors they experienced.”
“Many people have had to spend days in underground shelters without food or sunlight,” he said.
Biden also introduced the story of a young Ukrainian mother.
It is said that a Russian soldier opened fire while waiting in line to get food with his family.
Biden said that since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, many refugees have walked hundreds of kilometers across the border without shoes, and in fear, they have left their homes defenseless and unprepared.
An 11-year-old boy complained that he even went on a evacuation road alone, with only his family’s contact details on the palm of his hand.
Biden also shared an anecdote of meeting with Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Mrs. Zelenska did not ask me for food, clothing or weapons,” he said.
“I said I came here to show support for Ukrainian mothers,” I said. However, he concluded, saying, “Putin, please put an end to this cruel war,” he said.
Meanwhile, Biden visited western Ukraine on the 8th without notice and met with Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Major foreign media such as CNN reported that Biden had a surprise meeting with Zelenska at a school in Uzhorod that was converted into a temporary residence for displaced people.
The two met for about an hour in a small classroom inside the school in Uzhorod.
Earlier, on April 30, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Kiiu, the capital of Ukraine, and on the 24th, Secretary of State Tony Blincoln and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also arrived in Kii without prior notice and talked for a long time with President Zelensky. Although high-ranking U.S. officials, such as Na Na, have recently visited Ukraine, it is the first time that President Biden’s family has visited Ukraine.
