These are the mayors of Galicia who earn the most and those who do not receive a salary

The Ministry of Finance has made public the salaries of Galician councilors in 2020, a year in which the mayors of Pontevedra and Vigo, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lords (72,566 euros) and Abel Caballero (70.775 euros), receive the highest amounts. For its part, a dozen councilors of small municipalities do not charge for their position, while there are 39 municipalities that do not offer data.

Between the seven cities, after Pontevedra and Vigo, the order from highest to lowest is: Ourense, Gonzalo Pérez Jácome (69,926 euros); A Coruña, Inés Rey (69,218 euros); Lugo, Lara Méndez (68,361 euros); Santiago de Compostela, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo (52,020 euros); and Ferrol, Ángel Mato (40,000 euros).

Beyond the seven cities, there are eleven mayors who receive more than 50,000 eurosIn other words, all of them charge more than the councilor of Ferrol and some more than that of the capital of Galicia. Here they are: The road, José López Campos (58,372 euros); Riverside, Manuel Ruiz Rivas (56,733 euros); Culleredo, José Ramón Riobóo (56,178 euros); Arteixo, José Carlos Calvelo (56,100 euros); Narón, Marian Ferreiro (55,155 euros); Vilanova de Arousa, Gonzalo Durán (54,127 euros); Lalín, José Crespo (53,521 euros); Orders, José Luis Martínez Sanjurjo (50,694 euros); Betanzos, María Barral (50,370 euros); and O Grove, José Cacabelos (50,095 euros).

Here also appears the municipality of Ames, where he was in 2020 as councilor José Miñones (54,060 euros), before becoming a government delegate in 2021, replaced on the municipal command staff by Blas García.

While, the salaries of the presidents of the deputations Galician are the following: Pontevedra, Carmela Silva (77,696 euros); A Coruña, Valentín González Formoso (72,954 euros); Ourense, José Manuel Baltar (72,325 euros); and Lugo, José Tomé (68.914 euros), who also receives 7,700 euros for his position as mayor, according to data from the Treasury.

A dozen without pay

In addition, there are a dozen mayors in Galicia from small town councils that they do not receive a salary for their municipal position – all without exclusive dedication. Specifically, they are the councilors of A Capela, Pontedeume, Alfoz, Guntín, Mondariz-Balneario, O Barco, Carballeda de Avia, Maside, A Mezquita, Pontedeva, Ramirás and Xunqueira de Ambía. They are joined by the mayor of As Pontes, Valentín González Formoso, who receives zero euros for his position as mayor, although he has a salary of 72,954 euros as president of the A Coruña Provincial Council.

The number of mayors without exclusive dedication is 69 throughout Galicia. However, here there are differences, from the aforementioned dozen that does not charge, through the 40 euros that Ramirás receives to the 27,719 euros that the mayor of Ares, Julio Iglesias Redondo receives. By provinces, the distribution of mayors without exclusive dedication is: Ourense (31), A Coruña (18), Lugo (15) and Pontevedra (5).

Almost 40 do not offer data

In parallel, the information from the Ministry of Finance, which collects Europa Press, indicates that there are 39 Galician municipalities that have not provided information on the amounts received by the members of the municipal corporation in 2020.

The list of municipalities that do not offer information is as follows: Marín, Teo, Nigrán, Cambados, Sarria, Salvaterra de Miño, Xinzo, Oroso, Cerdedo-Cotobade, Vila de Cruces, Ribadumia, A Illa de Arousa, Fisterra, A Rúa, Friol, Rodeiro, Agolada, Frades, Sober, A Pobra de Trives, A Merca, Vilardevós, Paradela, Lobios, Rios, O Irixo, Portomarín, Vilar de Barrio, Rairiz de Veiga, Laza, Cerdido, Ourol, Petín, Manzaneda, Porqueira , Lobeira, Triacastela, Parada de Sil and Larouco.
