The actor Will Smith suffers the consequences for hitting comedian Chris Rock during the Oscar Awards ceremony in front of millions of viewers.

That is why Smith will not be able to attend any Oscar-related event or program, in person or virtually, for 10 years. Although it is unknown if that will have any impact on the possible nominations.

At the time he said, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision,” as well as resigning from the Academy and calling his actions painful and inexcusable.

Smith’s popularity dropped 15 points after this incident, according to the Q Scores poll for Variety. In January he had 39% favorable opinion, the same as Tom Cruise and above Dwayne Johnson and Keanu Reeves, but by July it had dropped to 26%.

Jada Pinkett, his wife, also suffered from the incident, since in January 2022 13% of those surveyed had a favorable opinion of it, six months later it had fallen to 6%.

Smith premiered his film “Emancipation” through Apple TV and with it a private screening attended by Rihanna, Dave Chappelle and Tyler Perry.

He offered a television interview explaining that that night his entire past came to his mind and that is why he exploded. And she also accepted that because of the incident, people would think about boycotting the film and not seeing it. In the end the film was not considered for an Oscar.

Netflix halted pre-production on “Fast and loose,” where Smith would work. Also, “Bright 2” was canceled a month after the incident.

Oscar organizers have a “crisis team” ready

Many remember the awards ceremony Oscar of 2022 more for the slap than Will Smith tipped to Chris Rock than for the winning films and artists, and to avoid that this year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will have a “crisis team” during the eventwho will be attentive to any situation out of the ordinary and to the script that is prepared.

Bill Kramerwho is part of that organization, announced to the magazine Time that so far they are “prepared for everything” and have imagined several situations that could overshadow the ceremony: “Because of what happened last year, we have opened our minds to the many things that can happen in the delivery of the Oscar“.

One of the points of support for Kramer and his team in the face of any eventuality will be the host of the event, Jimmy Kimmel.known for his television show and that on the night of March 12 he could properly improvise to avoid an unpleasant episode like the one that starred Smith and Rock.
