During June, the World Blood Donor Day and in accordance with its characteristic solidarity with social causes, Neverías Frody invites its friends to donate blood during this month of June at the facilities of the Red Cross Blood Bank in Polanco, Mexico City.
According to data from the Red Cross, in Mexico the percentage of altruistic donors is 3% and the rest of the donors are called by replacement or relatives: that is, Mexico is the prototype country of Family and Non-Altruistic Donation. It is for this reason that the Mexican ice cream shop seeks to invite its consumers to turn, as in other initiatives, to donate blood, in this case to promote this action among the population.
This year’s campaign promoted by the World Health Organization has as its motto “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”to highlight the essential contribution of blood donors to saving lives and strengthening solidarity in communities.
Blood and blood products are essential resources for the effective treatment of women suffering from hemorrhage related to pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with hereditary bone marrow disorders, hemoglobin disorders, and immunodeficiency diseases; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing complex medical and surgical procedures.
Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries. During the Covid-19 pandemic, this coronavirus brought blood donation to critically low levels in Mexico and during the health emergency, only 1% of the people who went to a hospital did so voluntarily.
And without a pandemic, the main reasons why people do not come to donate voluntarily are: lack of time, they only do it when needed since they had never thought about it. The main reasons for this perception are: fear, lack of culture and lack of interest.
“A person can donate blood three times a year and save up to four lives. We know that within our community of friends there are very supportive people who can help us increase the blood reserves of the Red Cross with their donation, to help this institution to meet the medical needs that must be covered with this valuable living tissue” said Beatriz Rodríguez, CEO of Neverías Frody.
Frody will give a very special thanks to those who have gone to donate to the Red Cross Blood Bank located at Calle Benito Pérez Galdos #121, Polanco, Miguel Hidalgo Mayor’s Office, presenting proof of donation at any of the more than 50 branches of Frody in Mexico City and Morelos.
The requirements to donate blood at the headquarters of the Red Cross Blood Bank in Polanco are: be over 18 years old and under 65; be in good general health; a minimum fast of 4 hours and a maximum of 8 hours; weigh at least 50 kilos; 1 year later after having tattoos, piercings or surgeries; carry a valid official identification; go donate blood from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
