For adult Americans, being able to balance on one foot can predict how long they will live.
Those who cannot balance on one foot for 10 seconds are twice as likely to die in the next 10 years, according to a report published Tuesday in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Monitoring balance with just one foot, even if only for seconds, can be a valuable way to determine if a person’s health is good or declining. A 2019 report found that the number of deaths of people 75 and older was on the rise in the United States.
