On Wednesday, FC Bayern left the DFB Cup without a single word. In general, the performance of the teams from Bavaria is poor this year. Only one team made it into the third round.
FC Bayern was eliminated from the cup. As in the previous year, the Munich team failed in the second round. While Munich was at least able to take penalties against Kiel in January, it was over after 90 minutes against Gladbach on Wednesday evening.
Best cup team from Bavaria from the third division
But the record cup winner is not the only team from the state of Bavaria that had to give up early on in the DFB Cup. Both 1. FC Nürnberg (on penalties against HSV), FC Augsburg (on penalties against VfL Bochum), Jahn Regensburg (on penalties against Hansa Rostock) and FC Ingolstadt (0: 2 at Borussia Dortmund) failed in Round 2.

Already in the first round at the beginning of August, upper division SpVgg Bayreuth (3: 6 against Arminia Bielefeld), third division Würzburger Kickers (0: 1 against SC Freiburg) and Bundesliga team Greuther Fürth (on penalties against Babelsberg) said goodbye.
This means that only one club from Bavaria is currently still represented in the DFB Cup: TSV 1860 Munich. The third division surprisingly prevailed 1-0 against second division Schalke 04 on Tuesday, as they deserved.
Last year, Jahn Regensburg, a supposed underdog, was the best team from Bavaria. It was only in the quarterfinals that Jahn (0: 1 against Werder Bremen) ended.
Curious: From 2008 to 2020, FC Bayern was the best Bavarian team in the DFB Cup for a whopping 13 years. Will Munich ever start such a series again? FCB will not have the opportunity to lay the foundations for this until the 2022/2023 season, at least again.
