This star is hurtling at 8,000 kilometers per second

Not so long ago, scientists presented an image of the supermassive black hole that sits at the center of the Milky Way: Sagittarius A*. Many stars circulate in orbit around this celestial body endowed with an incredible gravitational force.

In a recent study, researchers published an account of the observation of one of these stars named S4716. This star is unique in that it moves at very high speed: no less than 8,000 kilometers per second. Moreover, its orbit is fixed at only 100 astronomical units, or even 100 times the distance between the Earth and the Sun. It needs four years to go completely around Sagittarius A*.
