1. Between 300.000 and 500.000

It is estimated between 500,000 and 300,000 the number of young people in France who would take care of a person of their entourage of regular and frequent, of a member of their close surroundings who is sick, in a situation of disability or dependence in France. To give an idea, one child per class would be affected by the status of young helping.

2. 40% have less than 20 years

40% of these young people under 20 years of age.The average age identified at the beginning of the assistance is estimated at 16.9 years. But caregivers can also take their role from a young age. In this respect, the association JADE welcomes children of caregivers from the age of eight years.

3. 50% girls, 50% boys

The parity would be perfect: the status of young carer would 50% girls, 50% boys. “All social categories, in all regions of France they are urban or rural, are concerned,” says Virginia, Assaults, coordinator within the association of JADE.
