Berlin (AP) – Golf star Tiger Woods will be playing in a PGA Tour tournament for the first time since last summer next week. The 82-time PGA tournament winner announced this on his social media channels. The 47-year-old announced that he was ready for the Genesis Invitational in the US state of California.
Woods last took part in an official tournament at the British Open in St. Andrews last summer and was eliminated early without a chance. In Scotland it was only the third PGA tournament since his serious car accident in February 2021, in which he broke his right leg several times.
Hosted by Woods himself, the February 13-19 Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades is located just 40 miles from his hometown of Cypress, California. Woods has played 14 times in the PGA tournament: in 1992 he made his professional debut at the Riviera Country Club near Los Angeles; In 1998 and 1999 he took second place.
Most recently, Woods swung the bat in public with his son Charlie at the PGA family tournament. At the PNC Championship in Orlando, the Woods team tied for eighth place.
