The Bundesliga is entering the final sprint with rapid steps. There are still nine matchdays to play. A lot has changed again after the 25th matchday, both at the top of the table and at the bottom of the table. For a long time it looked like a multi-fight for the German championship. However, crystallized in the past few weeks two clear favourites out: The FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. BVB is still unbeaten in the league in 2023. Has shaken off the Champions League defeat against Chelsea (1: 2) and the damper in the district derby against Schalke 04 (2: 2) and conquered the lead in the table in an impressive manner against 1. FC Köln (6: 1). Bayern suffered a setback at Bayer Leverkusen (1-2) and are now under pressure in a direct duel against Westphalia on April 1, 2023.

battle for Europe

In addition to the two master candidates, seven other teams are fighting for the places that entitle them to take part in the European competitions. The third and fourth places, which are currently occupied by Union Berlin and SC Freiburg, allow the teams in the coming season in the Champions League to participate. The fifth-placed starts in the Europa Leaguethe sixth-place finisher gets the opportunity to compete in the Europa-Conference-League-Playoffs to qualify for the group stage. If the winner of the DFB-Pokal is in the top six in the final table, the sixth-placed team takes part in the Europa League, while the seventh-placed team gets to play in the Europa Conference League play-offs.

All in all, we’ll probably still be fighting until the end of the season five teams against Bundesliga relegation. Between the table-14. VfL Bochum and bottom of the table VfB Stuttgart are five points away, so all teams have a realistic chance of staying up in the league. At the same time, everyone is still threatened with relegation or even a direct transition to the 2nd Bundesliga.
