DThe price of used cars is on the rise and some classics have also recently shown a strong upward price trend. But the Porsche 928 is not exactly the car that breaks records at auctions. At least, a regular 928 doesn’t.
Tom Cruise’s Porsche 928 in Risky Business
In the summer of 1983 a certain Tom Cruise starred in a print by Paul Brickman, ‘Risky Business’. Young Tom, 21 at the time, plays high school student Joel Goodson in search of freedom. That was three years before the release of the famous Top Gun.
As is often the case in movies, a slightly different car was chosen. In this case, a Porsche 928 phase 1 was in the spotlight. In particular, a chase scene, opposite a Cadillac Coupé DeVille, stayed in the memory. Cruise drove the Porsche, three copies of which were used during the filming. He had to learn to shift gears with a manual gearbox.
The most expensive Porsche 928
The 928 is not exactly a valuable Porsche, but that didn’t bother movie fans in general and Tom Cruise in particular. During a Barrett-Jackson auction in Houston, one of the three copies of the film went to a new owner for just under two million dollars or almost 1.7 million euros.
The car in question changed owner and color several times. It was once white, but has now returned to its original champagne color. The interior has always been caramel colored. The 4.5 l V8 generates 221 hp and is linked to a five-speed manual transmission.
The sun visors of this 928 are signed by various members of the film cast such as Bronson Pinchot, Curtis Armstron or Joe Panolanio. Tom Cruise did not sign the model, but that detail did not slow down the auction.
