Tornado in the Belgian Ardennes: ‘Pretty large specimen’

The tornado hit the area just north of Houffalize, a popular camping destination in the Ardennes.

Amateur footage shows that the trunk of the tornado hit the ground for at least two minutes:

Nothing is yet clear about the strength of the tornado, but Buienradar meteorologist Reinier van den Berg speaks of ‘a fairly large specimen’.

In Belgium, according to the KMI, the Belgian counterpart of the KNMI, three to five whirlwinds or tornadoes develop every year. In any case, this is already the second in a week.
