Torrential rains in Germany also demolished the bobsleigh track in Bavaria’s Königssee, which is also used by toboggans and skeletonists at top races.

According to photos on social networks, the 1,500-meter-long riverbed is completely flooded with water, rubble and stones and is significantly damaged in several places. According to the DPA, the management of the district of Berchtesgaden has not yet commented on the damage to the track.

“This hurts a lot,” Felix Loch, a three-time Olympic sleigh winner, wrote on Instagram about the ruined track.

Heavy rains and devastating floods, which have affected Western Europe in particular, have claimed more than 150 lives in Germany and caused enormous material damage.
