DECRYPTION – The jurisdiction of Toulon has nevertheless put itself in battle order to respond to this unprecedented situation.

After the four migrants who escaped checks for a procedural defect, after the twenty or so minors who disappeared into the wild, it is the judicial system that is overwhelmed by the 234 migrants from theOcean Viking . While the minors on the humanitarian ship were taken care of by child welfare, the 189 adults had, for their part, been placed in a “waiting area” before being interviewed by the Office French Protection for Refugees and Stateless Persons (Ofpra).

However, when a person is placed in a center of this type, they can stay there for four days, after which the procedure obliges them to request an extension of their stay in the waiting area – the maximum period of which is 26 days – from the a liberty and detention judge.
