Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta, according to Tuttosport.

What is the history?

Tuttosport reports today that Tottenham are close to securing the services of former Aston Villa goalkeeper Gollini.

Spurs could sign Italian international goalkeeper Atalanta on a one- to two-year loan deal.

As part of the deal, the Spurs will have to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan period.

Tottenham will have to pay between 15 and 20 million euros (12.86 – 17.14 million pounds) as a transfer fee.

This means that if the Spurs sign the 26-year-old on loan now, then they wouldn’t have to pay the transfer fee until 2022 or even 2023.

Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

Tuttosport assures that Gollini will go to Spurs knowing that he will be Hugo Lloris’ number two.

And he’s fine with it.

Lloris is still a very good goalkeeper, but the French international is now 34 years old.

The Spurs need to hire a younger goalkeeper who can push Lloris down and eventually take his place.

Gollini is only 26 years old and given his experience in Serie A and the Champions League with Atalanta, he would be a good goalkeeper to train to replace Lloris in a year or two.
