From the start of the race we drove fast. It took a few kilometers before a strong breakaway group formed. There were Filippo Colombo (SUI), Quinten Hermans (IWG), Yannis Voisard (SUI), Óscar Rodríguez (MOV), Ivo Oliveira (UAD), Ioms Skujin (TFS), Marco Brenner (DSM), James Knox (QST) , Harm Vanhoucke (LTS), Ion Izaguirre (COF), Raul García (EKP) and Nils Brun (SUI). The field controlled the deficit.
On the final climb, about 10 kilometers from the finish, the last two escapees were caught and the Jumbo Visma team set the pace. The group of favorites continued to thin out. Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) also lost touch. An Augusto Rubio (Movistar) attacked from the field and broke away around eight and a half kilometers from the finish.
Rubio was caught just before the finish and the group sprinted. Higuita prevailed over Vlasov.
