“I would have liked to raise my arms with the world champion jersey…”

In the first stage, I showed that I could be fast but I went too far. Today, we saw again that I had speed, it’s great! What we showed was the plan, what we wanted to do. We knew there was a fairly long and difficult climb before the final climb. I am very happy with the result and the work of the team. They have shown that they are in good shape, very strong and able to take the pressure on their shoulders. Only positive feelings and that says a lot about the future and the Giro”rejoiced the winner of the day.

The Belgian also joked about the jersey he wore when crossing the line. “It’s a shame that I’m wearing the best young player’s jersey, I would have liked to raise my arms with the world champion’s jersey”, he said with a smile. Note that this is the first victory for Remco Evenepoel in a stage race this year.

“We will aim for victory tomorrow…”

Remco Evenepoel was then asked about the rest of the week and his great battle against Primoz Roglic for the gain of the general classification. “In general, there is a good fight. I hope to have the same energy in the next few days. Today, we showed that we were a very strong team by taking our responsibilities. We will aim for the stage victory tomorrow”, he announced. At the end of this step, Primoz Roglic is still the leader of the race but Remco Evenepoel is now at the same time as the Slovenian. The weekend is going to be crazy.
