Train derailed in collision with bus in Vorden: driver seriously injured; replacement transport with buses | Zutphen

update | met videoThe driver of a company bus was seriously injured in a collision with a train in Vorden this morning. Due to the accident, there is currently no train traffic between Zutphen and Winterswijk. The train was derailed by the collision but is still standing.

The accident happened around a quarter past ten at the unguarded railway crossing with the Onsteinseweg, between Vorden and Groenlo. According to railway manager ProRail, a train carrying about 80 passengers collided with a company bus while it was crossing the rails.

Contrary to an earlier report from Prorail, the driver of the bus was seriously injured. He was taken to hospital by air ambulance. Emergency services were present in large numbers. No one was injured on the train. The driver was examined on site but was found to have been released unhurt.

Witnesses said the train was derailed by the impact. The damage to the track is extensive. ProRail expects the recovery to take at least the rest of the day.

Train traffic has been canceled until then. Carrier Arriva uses buses on the route.
