Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – In Hesse, a train converted into a supermarket went into operation on Friday. As announced by the Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB Regio, the local supplier Rewe Region Mitte and the Association Fairtrade Germany, the “fair supermarket train” will in future offer regional, ecological and fair trade products. The train, which consists of three shopping wagons and an on-board bistro, will be at Frankfurt Central Station until Saturday (November 6th).

On the following weekends, he says he stops in Gießen, Fulda, Kassel, Darmstadt and Wiesbaden on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Shopping is also possible without a ticket. “The fair supermarket train shows how many areas of our everyday life we ​​can make more sustainable and fairer,” said Fairtrade Manager Carsten Lorenz. According to its own account, Rewe Region Mitte operates around 540 supermarkets in Hesse and parts of Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate. Rewe trainees run the “supermarket train”.
