Transfer market: change fixed: Hoffenheim gives Gacinovic to AEK Athens

Mijat Gacinovic is leaving the Bundesliga soccer team TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with immediate effect and is joining AEK Athens.

The midfielder still had a contract with the Baden-Württembergers until 2024, as Hoffenheim announced.

At the start of training on Sunday, Gacinovic was already absent because he was free for talks. In the second half of the previous season he was loaned to AEK city rivals Panathinaikos. At his new club, the 27-year-old Serb meets Steven Zuber, who played for TSG between 2014 and 2020.

“We decided to loan Mijat last winter because our squad situation meant he didn’t get the time he had hoped for,” said Hoffenheim’s professional football director, Alexander Rosen. “Then it was a very good half-year in Athens. Panathinaikos won the cup and Mijat was the center of attention in Greece.”
