Tribute to former Philippine President Aquino | Former Philippine President

Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has died at the age of 61. He was president from 2010 to 2016. Aquino, who conquered the hearts of the people through his simple and corruption-free life, was a staunch democrat.

He is the son of Benigno Nino Aquino, who fought against the Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1983, and Corazon Aquino, former president (1986–92).

Marcos was ousted in 1986 during a military-backed uprising. Corazon Aquino then became president. Corazon died in 2009. The following year, Aquino III was elected president by a landslide.

In 2013, during Aquino’s reign, China sent ships to capture islands off the coast of the Philippines, but Aquino resisted the legal battle. The International Tribunal ruled in favor of the Philippines. In 2014, he struck a peace deal with the rebel Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the Philippines. Known as the calm Aquino, he first worked in business.
