Tropical storm Norbert formed this Tuesday from tropical depression Nineteen-E in the Mexican Pacific, far from the coast of the country and without causing any damage, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

“Tropical Storm Norbert has formed from Tropical Depression Nineteen-E, its center is located 625 kilometers south-southwest of Manzanillo, in the western state of Colima. It is kept under surveillance, ”the SMN reported in its most recent report.

Forecasts estimate that Norbert will remain a tropical storm until next Sunday. It will move north in parallel, but far from the shores of the Mexican Pacific.

The phenomenon currently presents maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour, gusts of 95 kilometers per hour and displacement towards the northwest at 11 kilometers per hour, the SMN detailed in its notice.

“It does not present significant effects for the national territory”, indicated the Meteorological.

To date, the tropical storms Amanda, Boris, Cristina, Fausto, Hernan, Iselle, Julio and Karina have formed, and hurricanes Douglas (with intensity 3-5), Elida (intensity 1-2), Genevieve (4) and Marie (4) on the Saffir Simpson scale.

Of these, Genevieve has been the most disastrous so far, leaving six dead and damaging tourist areas in the Mexican Pacific.

This Tuesday, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced the dispatch of 5000 elements of the Armed Forces to the Yucatan Peninsula, in the southeast, to mitigate the impact of Hurricane Delta, which is advancing across the Atlantic.

Authorities have forecast between 15 and 18 cyclones for the Pacific, of which between seven and eight will be tropical storms and eight to ten will reach hurricane winds, with half of them above Saffir Simpson’s category 2.

In the 2019 season, 33 events of this type were recorded, 19 in the Pacific and 14 in the Atlantic, according to data from the National Meteorological Service.

The tropical cyclone season begins each year on May 15 in the Pacific and in the Atlantic on June 1, ending for both areas on November 30.
