United States President Donald Trump has repeatedly made statements that have aroused controversy over the Corona COVID-19 virus. In fact, recently he called 99 percent of Corona cases in the United States (US) harmless.
This statement came on the United States Independence Day on July 4 yesterday. In the middle of his speech, Donald Trump again asked for responsibility from China for the Corona outbreak that occurred in the US.
“We were hit by a virus coming from China,” Trump said, quoted by The Guardian.
“We have made a lot of progress. Our strategy is going well. We have learned a lot. We have learned how to put out fires,” Trump claims.
The number of US Corona infections reaches 50,000 per day, higher than in April when the US faced the first Corona outbreak. Dr. Anthony Fauci, a renowned infectious disease expert in the US, had warned ahead of time regarding Corona’s handling in the US that was wrong.
“I think it is quite clear that we are not headed in the right direction,” Fauci said.
Repeatedly calling the Corona virus a Chinese virus, Trump again said things that were not based on scientific facts.
“Now we have tested nearly 40 million people. As such, we show cases, 99 percent of which are completely harmless. Results that cannot be shown by other countries because no other country has our tests, not in terms of quantity or quality, “Trump explained during the speech.
What are the facts?
Quoted from The New York Times, Trump’s statement about the Corona case 99 percent in the US is wrong. No matter how one defines harmless, most public health experts will totally contradict Trump’s assessment.
Experts say Trump appears to only use an estimated 1 percent mortality rate or not capture the full impact of the disease, and excludes thousands of people who have spent weeks in hospital. Likewise with weeks at home with mild to moderate conditions. Moderate symptoms may still cause health problems that make the body weak.
