WASHINGTON, September 16 (Itar-Tass) – RIA Novosti. US President Donald Trump argues that the "Russian investigation" cost him 25 points of support in public opinion polls.
"Although my – our – the indicators in the polls are good, since the economy is the best in history, if not forged by the Russian witch-hunt, they would be 25 points higher!" – Trump wrote. He accused the special prosecutor Robert Mueller and the Democrats that they use this issue in order to damage the Republicans in the midterm elections of November.
By the average indicators of the site FiveThirtyEight, the approval rating of Trump's activity in the polls is 39.9%, while 53.7% of his activities do not approve, and the rest of the respondents find it difficult to answer. Trump's rating at this stage of the first presidential term is lower than that of any other US president since Harry Truman, but he is only slightly behind the presidents of Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter. If Trump's rating were 25 percentage points higher, he would have approached George Bush Sr.'s ratings at the height of the Gulf War and George W. Bush a year after the September 11, 2001 attacks against the background of the war in Afghanistan and preparations for the second war in Afghanistan Iraq.
Muller is investigating the assumption of Trump's "collusion" with Russia in the presidential election, the Kremlin and the White House deny any connections between Moscow and Trump. Investigation of Russia's imputed "intervention" in the American elections is also conducted in both chambers of the US Congress. At the same time, no evidence of any "intervention" was given, despite the fact that the "investigation" has been going on for more than a year.
Russia has repeatedly refuted accusations of trying to influence elections in different countries, and Dmitry Peskov, the presidential press secretary, called them "absolutely unsubstantiated." Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking of alleged Russian intervention in the elections in the US and other countries, said that there are no facts supporting this. Advisor to the US President for National Security John Bolton also said that he received assurances from Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia did not interfere in the elections in the United States.
Putin said that this case – internal strife in the United States, and expressed the hope of stopping the investigation and development of relations between countries.
