Tunisian associations of Toulouse at the bedside of the maternity hospital of Sidi Bouzid

A collective of young associations and the Tunisian consulate in Toulouse, in the south of France, carried out humanitarian action for the benefit of the maternity hospital in Sidi Bouzid, in central Tunisia, a way of investing in the promotion of birth and life, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

The Tunisian diaspora in Toulouse is mobilizing to come to the aid of the regional hospital of Sidi Bouzid. I believe you is an action of solidarity which saw the light of day in Toulouse, a city which brings together many Tunisians. The purpose of this outpouring of solidarity is to bring about a collection of donations to equip the regional hospital of Sidi Bouzid. The objective is to provide it with medical and paramedical equipment essential to the care of pregnant women and children but currently unavailable.

The global health crisis due to Covid-19 continues. It highlighted the fragility of the Tunisian health system. This crisis exposed the problems of hospital services already marginalized and weakened by the decline of the entire hospital system in recent years.

Toulouse, known as the pink city, has always been a birth center of humanitarian actions for Tunisia. Responding to the call of duty, the Association of Young Tunisians in Toulouse (AJTT), the Association of Tunisian Students in Toulouse (AETT), the Association of Tunisian Doctors in the World (AMTM), the Association of Tunisians des deux rives (T2R) and the Tunisian consulate in Toulouse have decided to take the initiative and launch an international appeal for donations.

After consultation with the various expertises, local departments and caregivers in the field, the opinion was unanimous: start by arranging the gynecology and pediatrics departments. In addition to the solidarity and humanitarian aspect, the organizers of the action were motivated by the symbolic nature of it, to invest in the promotion of birth and life, in the cradle of the Arab Spring.

The objective has now been reached and very soon, a shipment containing incubators for newborns, cesarean section boxes and high-end delivery beds will be sent to Sidi Bouzid. The collective thanks all those who have contributed to this momentum of solidarity.
