Turkish Cypriot Republic condemns provocative military actions of the Greek Cypriot sector

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (RTCN) reacted to the participation in a Greek Cypriot military exercise of Lazaros Mauros whose name appeared on the passport issued by the Greek Cypriot authorities used by the leader of the PKK terrorist group, Abdullah Öcalan, before he was captured.

“Lazaros Mauros, whose name was on the forged passport of the terrorist ringleader, looked unabashedly holding a rifle during the military exercise at the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA). Recently, the AGC trains priests in the handling of weapons”, announced the Turkish Cypriot government, categorically condemning this action in the framework of provocative military activities.

“The support provided to the PKK terrorist gang with bloody hands that has claimed the lives of thousands of our brothers for years in Turkey is an open indication that the Greek Cypriot sector is practicing the ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’ policy. It is understood that the rhetoric of the Greek Cypriot administration, which aims to harm Turkey’s national interests and does everything to strengthen anti-Turkish hostility, to build a future in peace and tranquility, consists only of insincere statements,” he said.

It was stated that the AGC not only destroys peace and stability in the region with its defiant attitude, but also deepens the lack of trust between the parties.

“The TRCN is determined to protect the political rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people with the support of their motherland Turkey, the sole protector of their security on the island,” he said.
