Twenty-somethings break into the zoo and throw a bottle at the giraffe, but are now being punished for it

Two years ago, during the lockdown period, two British people in their twenties broke into the British Marwell Zoo. They broke into the giraffe enclosure and threw a bottle of disinfectant at the animal as they filmed it all. Now they have been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and damaging the giraffe enclosure.

It’s February 15, 2021 and Bradley Green (24) and Nathan Daniels (21) have the idea to break into Marwell Zoo. It’s lockdown and the two say they are dead bored. They break into the penguins and tigers, but they also wreak havoc in the giraffe enclosure.

“You took the bucket and bottle of disinfectant in the giraffe enclosure and you threw it at the giraffe. It hit the animal in the neck. One of the giraffes had an injury to its leg that was discovered the next morning. That was because the giraffe was upset by the incident and hit itself against the door,” the judge told Green.

Green’s lawyer defended his client by saying he was ashamed of the incident and now realizes that what he has done is very serious. He is an animal lover at heart.

But that was to no avail. Green and Daniels face 12 months community service with 120 hours of unpaid work and a fine of approximately $850 to the zoo.
