The trial opened on November 24 before the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court. Two men are accused of having killed a craftsman from Saint-Georges-de-Reintembault with a knife in 2019. He had refused to give them 20 euros. They risk life imprisonment.
On the morning of the tragedy, the two men went to the Saint-Georges de Reintembault garden plant, between Fougères and Avranches. The owner had given them 10 euros.
A few hours later, around 7 p.m., under the influence of alcohol, they returned. But this time the craftsman refused. They stabbed him. The man only had time to go to his neighbor’s house before having a cardiovascular arrest.
On their arrival, the gendarmes of Fougères noticed that his office was “messy“and a jar “containing tickets“was smashed to the ground. The two attackers fled into a field after disposing of the weapon which was never found.
One of them immediately called the gendarmes to denounce his drinking companion before admitting to being the author of the violence.
A “heavy” past
The hearing opened with the examination of the personalities of the two accused. The first, aged 50, is described as “aggressive and violent when he’s been drinking or being tense”. He has already been sentenced 40 times and has spent 10 years behind bars in prison.
“On an empty stomach, he’s the best person in the world, but with alcohol he’s not the same man“testified his former partner. The man is the father of eight children, but”as a matter of fact“, he confessed to the court,”I don’t really know their first names. “
His co-accused worked for 34 years at JB Martin in Fougères. But the worker once, “punctual and hardworking “had a problem with alcohol. He indicated he was pleading not guilty.
Both men face life imprisonment. The verdict of the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court is expected Friday, November 26, 2021.
