There have been two raids on gas stations in Bern since Sunday. A man was arrested Thursday night.
In the course of the investigation into two robberies on Sunday, January 16th and Thursday, January 20th, 2022, the Bern cantonal police were able to identify and arrest a suspect on Thursday evening.
On Sunday, January 16, 2022, at around 10.40 a.m., the Bern cantonal police received a report of a raid on a petrol station shop on Giacomettistrasse in Bern. According to initial statements, the perpetrator threatened an employee of the gas station shop with a knife, stole cash and then fled on foot.
Extensive search and investigation measures were initiated immediately. While various investigative approaches were being pursued, on Thursday, January 20, 2022, shortly before 10:50 a.m., the Bern cantonal police received a report of a robbery at a petrol station shop on Kleiner Muristalden in Bern, in which an employee was also threatened with a knife and the perpetrator was linked to the prey fled.
A possible connection with the robbery on Sunday morning was examined as part of the separate investigations conducted by the regional public prosecutor’s office in Bern-Mittelland. The combination of various clues from the two cases finally confirmed a connection and led to the identification of the 49-year-old suspect.
The Bern canton police stopped the alleged perpetrator on the evening of January 20, 2022, shortly before 6 p.m. He confessed to committing the two robberies. He was provisionally arrested.
