KYIV. Ukrainian military intelligence has offered a reward of 100,000 dollars (102,000 euros) for the capture of the former commander-in-chief of the Donetsk separatists, Igor Girkin, also known as Strelkov. The DPA agency informed about it.

Strelkov used to be an officer of Russia’s FSB secret service and has recently been in Russia. However, according to his wife’s statement on social networks, he recently left for the Ukrainian front.

Who is Igor Girkin/Strelkov?

Strelkov is one of the defendants in the downing of a Malaysian airliner over eastern Ukraine in 2014. At the time of the accident, he was working in the rebel Donbas as “Minister of Defense”. Later, however, he apparently fell out of favor with Moscow and was called back to Russia.

In Ukraine, Girkin is accused of terrorism, torture, premeditated murder and violation of the laws of war.

“Ukrainian military intelligence guarantees a payment of 100,000 dollars for the handover of Igor Girkin (Strelkov) to Ukrainian captivity,” the secret service wrote on its website.

Ukrainian public figures also offered a reward for the capture of Girkin

Earlier, Ukrainian public figures also offered a reward of 30,000 dollars for the capture of Girkin.

When the news about Girkin’s alleged return to the front in Ukraine appeared in the Ukrainian media, Odesa activist Serhiy Sternenko announced that he would pay $10,000 from his savings to whoever would arrest Girkin.

This initiative was later joined by the frontman of the music group Antytila, Taras Topoľa, and the writer Valerij Markus, who added another 10,000 dollars each to the fund.

The amount may increase further as the initiative is open to new donors, the BBC added.
