Aaron Ramsey's farewell match for Arsenal is in limbo after limping out of the Stadio San Paolo with a thigh he had suffered in the quarter-finals of the Europa League against Napoli.
The midfielder, who joins Juventus this summer, has yet again come out on top against Arsenal. Unai Emery's expression was doubtful when he considered the likelihood of this prospect. The best he could offer was a cautious "I do not know."
He was disappointed to have lost such an influential player as Arsenal attacked two ways into the Champions League. "It's a muscle injury. Usually it is a few weeks outside the team.
"He was in a very good moment, with great behavior and a commitment to do something important. His injury today can give us some games without him, "said Emery. He will probably not play in the semi-final against Valencia.
Arsenal's last Premier League fixture in Burnley takes place three weeks and three days after the injury, so Ramsey has to recover quickly before leaving to play in his own country. There is a greater chance that he will have at least another appearance when his team reach the final of the Europa League, which lasts less than six weeks.
It was the only acidic note for an otherwise stellar game for Arsenal, scoring a 3-0 aggregate victory thanks to a close-knit team effort buffed out by Alexandre Lacazette's free-kick. Once this goal was achieved, it was never in question.
Emery was thrilled and felt that his team was making a heroic change. "I am very proud of my players and our work," he said. "We show that players have the habit of playing in a good atmosphere against good teams and show great personality.
"I do not know if it's our best performance, but it's good after we won Watford on Monday. It is important for us to be consistent against Napoli in the second leg, to keep our goal and to win against a very large team. "
Arsenal plays at the Crystal Palace on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium, before it comes to heavy away games in Wolves and Leicester.
