Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar announced Sunday that she joins the race to reach the White House in 2020.
In Minneapolis, the most populous city in the state it represents, The senator made the announcement to hundreds of supporters at an outdoor event under a heavy snowstorm that covered the audience with an icy white cape.
His followers and speakers endured freezing temperatures between 16 and 14 degrees Farenheit (-10 degrees Celsius) in a park along the Mississippi River, near downtown Minneapolis.
"I stand before you as the granddaughter of a miner, the daughter of a teacher and a journalist, the first woman elected to the United States Senate of the state of Minnesota, to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the United States," Klobuchar said. "I'll look you in the eyes, I'll tell you what I think, I'll concentrate on doing things, that's what I've done all my life."
Klobuchar, 58, has been building a national profile and developing a campaign team for some time.
It is considered a democratic pragmatic voice from the center of the country, Minnesota, which joins a field increasingly populated with Democratic contenders hoping to snatch the president Donald Trump his place in the White House.

Klobuchar easily won his re-election for a third term in the Senate last November.
The pride she shows by roots in the Midwest and its popularity in Minnesota they could play him in favor especially thinking of a Republican contender like Trump, whose message reached deep into the voters of this area of the country in the 2016 elections.
Klobuchar also has a reputation as a defender of the rights of the working classes and middle classes.
Klobuchar's announcement comes amid reports that indicate high staff turnover in his Senate office. Former workers of the senator said on condition of anonymity to Buzzfeed that Klobuchar supposedly created a hostile work environment for his bad manners with the employees. The voices that defend the senator say that it simply demands excellence.
Klobuchar joins a list of Democratic challengers that includes Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kamala Harris of California and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
While many of the high-profile Democrats like Warren have drawn attention, Klobuchar has discreetly captured Washington's eye as a progressive center.
A feature that could be played in favor of Klobuchar is that he has managed to leave partisans aside when approving projects. In such a polarized moment of US politics, many voters may see this as a sign of political maturity and moderation.
