Under the threat of a massive exodus of doctors, Slovakia is asking its neighbors for help. Shame, say the unions

He pointed out that the Prime Minister, despite the requests of doctors, did not address the worsening situation in hospitals for over a year and a half. “Heger’s request for help from countries that, unlike the Slovak government, realized the seriousness of the situation in their health systems in time and stabilized their health care thanks to solving the problems, is embarrassing for Slovakia,” Visolajský said.

Czech trade unionists: We will not let our colleagues down

Slovak trade unionists also published a letter from Czech colleagues who responded to Heger’s request. According to Martin Engel, the possible help due to the personnel crisis in the Czech healthcare sector is only illusory. He also stated that Czech doctors will not fail their Slovak colleagues.

At the summit in Košice, Heger asked the prime ministers of the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary for help in the health sector. The prime ministers of the neighboring countries have promised help and will also allow hospitalization in the border region for Slovak patients.
